I read the Manga. That was dark as hell.

I personally really like Charles Stross' "the laundry series" basically the government trying to prevent Cthulhu style incursions but fighting a losing battle while trying to survive basic politics.

It's unfortunate that the movie couldn't grasp the horror of it all

So I could not finish "Johnathon Strange & Mr. Norrel". I got a few chapters in and just couldn't find a likable character. They just all seemed like stuffy jerk-faces. I don't know. Any who, I've started rereading Nancy A. Collins' "Dead Man's Hand" which is a collection of short stories about horror/western stories. Vampire cowboys and Frankinstien cowboys and so on and then I'm gonna restart Anno Dracula which is about if Dracula had won against Van Helsing and his influance had spread through Europe. I like it but it's written in the Victorian style which makes it kind of dry.

Well, we're now less than half a month away from October now.
Starting my horror fix early with some Lovecraft, but also keeping an eye out for some good horror recommendations while I'm at it.
Only other prospectively lined up right now is F. Paul Wilson's The Keep.

So I've been taking a break from writing to catch up on some reading and doing some editing in my computer and just thought I'd throw out this thread. I've been re-reading a fantasy series called "The Dresden Files", a urban fantasy series about the only Wizard in the Chicago phone book. Between books in that series I've read "Chuthlu's Monsters" which was a collection of modern written stories about H.P. Lovecraft's monsters. And I just finished "Blood Oranges" about a junkie Vampire/Werewolf homeless girl trying to stay alive in a world of hidden monsters. And I've just started "Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrel" which is a alternative history genre about magic in the Victorian age.

Jonathan Strange is on Netflix right now. Not sure if it's a film or an entire series. The Dresden Files was a tv series starring Paul Blackthorne.

I'm reading As Evil Does by John Tigges..it's a horror novel about two teenage girls who go for a hike and wander into a biker camp, where they are gang raped and murdered. The brother of one of the girls sets out to get revenge by killing one of the bikers and ingesting his soul, thereby enabling him to track the rest of the gang down.

I'm also reading The Hunting Season by John Coyne. It's about a woman researching birth defects in hillbillies in the Catskills who runs afoul of a psychopath with dark plans for her and her young daughter.

I read that. The language is very much a product of the time it was written but otherwise it was pretty good. Plus the author has a whole series about it I always wanted to get into.
